As the true Tao cannot be spoken, real Christianity proves itself, needs no explanation. But in the face of the word’s prevalent misuse, I’ll venture out to define it, discuss it, and clarify as best I can. I consider myself an actual Christian, who tries to follow the word of God through Jesus in the four gospels most Bibles present.

There is nothing harmful in the gospels, but for many years people have usurped the name of “Christian” to do evil, commit violence, and as my indigenous friend and writer Steven Newcomb asserts, to dominate others. Domination, evil and violence are absolutely not found in Jesus’ message to his disciples and the world. Because of that very fact, I contend, Christianity has been a perfect target of usurpation: to steal the pure and good for evil purposes.

The middle age Crusades drew a Christian cross on their shields, killed people for land. No credible interpretation of Jesus’ teachings would claim the rebellious Nazarene Rabbi wanted this. Any gospel references to the “sword” seem metaphorical, as Jesus’ overriding singular teaching above all others was Love. Love your neighbor as yourself. Love your enemy. Repent, and the other twenty-plus Jesus commandments in the Book of Matthew have nothing to do with the Papal writings that greenlit the Crusades and later the many abuses of European “Discovery.” In his Romanus Pontifex of 1454, Pope Nicholas V called on Catholics:

…to invade, search out, capture, vanquish, and subdue all Saracens and pagans whatsoever, and other enemies of Christ…

Aha! Enter the Catholicism versus Christianity debate. What is a Catholic? What is a follower of the Church that descends from Rome, home of the Romans who killed Jesus? To me the Catholic Church mixes the Bible, Christian views, idolatry and Roman polytheism enough for me to consider it somewhat alcoholic, confused with occasional gospel teachings that save lives.

English enlightenment thinker Sir John Locke was undoubtedly aware of usurping Christ to commit evil acts, when he wrote a treatise on usurpation, including this tidbit:

It is vain for any man to usurp the name of Christian, without holiness of life, purity of manners, benignity and meekness of spirit.

The above quote the perfect response to a reader ready to hit me with the invalid “No real Scotsman” fallacy in this Real v. Actual Christian debate. The “No Real Scotsman” fallacy does not apply to Christianity because Scotsmen have no explicit written code to follow. True Christians do, and follow it over anything a human leader might say, be he a pope or king or whoever asking people to break Christ’s commands.

Or a president associating him or herself with “Christian Nationalism,” something that doesn’t actually exist. The two terms are at odds. Are oxymoronic. Man cannot serve two masters, saith the gospel: we must choose sometimes. In the case of being a Christian, a follower of Christ and his teachings, you cannot be one while at the same time worshipping a national flag, nation or government.

Go beyond words and declarations. See the truth underneath. Know whether someone is false or true “by their fruits,” recommended Jesus. Their words can say one thing, their actions another. So to say, “I’m a good Christian” as you judge, mistreat, kill and dominate others is to say, you are not an actual Christian. It is to say you are attempting to usurp the name of “Christian” to help you do evil.

And never forget our beliefs, which coincide with the teachings in which we believe. If an actual Christian, you will be certain that you cannot be a “good” Christian because “only God is good,” according to Christ. You wouldn’t put a cross on a shield and kill people, if a true Christian. You wouldn’t post “Christian” on your Twitter bio blurb, while you spew hatred against people who look and talk differently than you.

You would treat the word of God with respect, Jesus’ commandments as laws and never break them consciously. Writing “I’m a Christian” or “I’m doing this for God” is a lot easier than actually living Christian principles. “Do as they say, not as they do,” and “you will know [false prophets] by their fruits” were teachings to prepare us for the Fake Christian. The violent person posing as a follower of God.

The usurper. The thief. The wolf in sheep’s clothing. If you see, hear or spot one of those I’d recommend using Jesus’ words against them: “Get thee behind me, Satan.” Then carry on in the best way forward in your “holiness of life, purity of manners, benignity and meekness of spirit.” Do anonymous acts of kindness, pray in private, love your enemies, forgive to be forgiven and be such a Christian you’ll never have to say you are one.

1. Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

2. Let your light so shine before men.

3. First be reconciled to your brother, then come and offer your gift.

4. Resolve matters on the way to court.

5. Whatever causes you to sin, cut it off.

6. Do not swear by anything, but let your yes be yes, your no, no.

7. Turn the other cheek to evil.

8. Love and pray for your enemies.

9. Be perfect, as your Father in heaven is perfect.

10. Do good, pray and fast privately.

11. In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
Amen.

12. Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth.

13. Choose your master, God or mammon.

14. Do not worry about your life.

15. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.

16. Do not worry about tomorrow.

17. Judge not, lest ye be judged.

18. Cast not your pearls before swine.

19. Ask and receive; seek and find.

20. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

21. Enter by the narrow gate.

22. Beware of false prophets.

23. Let the dead bury their own dead.

24. Be wise like the serpent and soft like the dove.

25. Beware of men.

26. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

27. Love thy neighbor as thyself.

***

I was reading Jay J. Jackson’s new book, Circumcision Scar (Hookona Books 2020), and it occurred to me I related to the author in ways I wish I did not.  In Chapter Two, Jay discusses his “Circumcision Awakening” at age twenty, when with his first intimate partner he realized what had happened to him against his will as a baby…

“My boyfriend said that he’d run into this issue before…”

They were talking about Jay’s apparent erectile dysfunction, coming to the fore at the same time he was learning for once the reason his penis was different than his uncircumcised father’s and his uncircumcised boyfriend’s.  That boyfriend attributed Jay’s “inability to perform” to “having no foreskin,”  then went on to explain, according to Jay, that his “glans [penis head] had been desensitized over time through the day to day friction it was exposed to…”

All of which ringing a sad, loud bell within myself as a victim and survivor of unconsenting genital mutilation when I was a baby.  I was reminded of a girlfriend telling me once that I was the first circumcised man she had been with, and also that I was the first man she had made love to who didn’t hold an erection for the entirety of love-making from first arousal to orgasm.

Like Jay I was an athlete growing up and exposed to much movement and friction “down there.”  And unfortunately, like Jay, I had trouble with sex, love, and found my way into a dark, unmanageable depression including prevalent suicidal thoughts—and eventually two drug overdoses.  Throw in drinking alcohol on Dad’s lap young, then with friends by twelve years old, blacking out on the substance by thirteen, and you have a good picture.

The start of recovery at Betty Ford Center, four years of Al-Anon twelve step work, then admission of my alcoholism and my last conscious drink of that substance on March 6th, 2002—and you have a better picture.  Recovery didn’t give me instant success at love, and I was a virgin until thirty-three years of age, seven shy of that Steve Carell comedy on the subject!  A total mess, for me starting with the first abuse:

The violent removal of a body part obviously and firmly attached to my penis, obviously and firmly for a reason—whether you lean toward Darwin or God’s evolution of our species.  The penis foreskin isn’t falling off, barely there, or needing detachment from Mom like the umbilical chord.  It’s there to protect, lubricate, cover and help the penis do its job over our lifespans, praise God (or Darwin) for the miracle of our natural advantages!

But not for me.  Not for Jay.  Not for about forty percent of the world’s men, according to the National Center for Biotechnology (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4772313/).  Who or what is leading this mass, bloody exodus of protective penis skin?  Jews?  Muslims?  Christian doctors with Jewish/Old Testament bible sympathies?  Confusion itself?  The Devil?  I’m laughing now, which is better than crying in my girlfriend’s lap.  The world’s women might wonder why their man can’t keep it hard for them…

The world’s women and inquiring men too, might wonder:  Why is Viagra so popular?  Why all the surging erectile dysfunction and medication to supposedly handle the issue?  Well, I’m for logic and for simplest solutions…  Perhaps it’s time to point out the very obvious problem rolled up at the end of our noses, in front of all our often shy faces:  God or Evolution put a protective covering over the sensitive tip of male genitalia – with the female stuff our great baby-maker, and even a really fun time if used properly!

Maybe we should leave the foreskin where it is until a boy becomes a man of consenting age.  If that young man wants to join a religion and carving off part of the penis is part of the joining—so be it.  Until then, join me in denouncing unconsenting genital mutilation as a human rights violation.  Join me in questioning an ancient but questionable practice that has circumcised men with the courage to speak speaking.  Regretting.  Hoping for change, if not for us, for the next generation!

Religion, Logic and Covid Response

Covid-Insanity1

To preface this piece, I am a United States citizen who does not believe in the validity of the U.S. government, nor do I believe that Western medicine is health.  Makes a visit home to Los Angeles from Mexico last week a tough one, facing the rules of a government that never got consent to rule over Native Americans here, one that claims free speech and to be a protector of everyone’s right to worship the religion of his or her choice.  That is unless there is a virus panic, I guess…

***

A while back I called Nancy Pelosi’s Washington D.C. office to ask her people a question.  Then I called Bernie Sanders’ folks, also trying the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington.  My question was: “What is your definition of health?”  I thought it a very important and obvious concept to nail down since everybody in the U.S. Government seems so interested in passing laws about it…  I got nothing from those offices, came back to Senator Dianne Feinstein, Senator Kamala Harris and Congressman Jimmy Gomez, who represented me locally.  Nothing.

The obscurity of “health” and government is playing out more than ever with what I call the virus panic of 2020.  Western medicine has been co-opted by our government in a silent deal made I don’t know when.  This piece will attempt to address the religious, spiritual and logical consequences of turning our wills and lives over to “medical experts” through our political representatives, who call themselves healthcare champions without defining health.

My definition of health is a peace of mind I get by doing what I feel is God’s will for me, one day at a time.  Very “AA” of me, but in my life, I find it all goes better when the spiritual leads the emotional and physical.  Spirit, spirit, spirit!  It’s powerful stuff, that and faith, and I’ll declare now proudly that if I had one type of healthcare to name it would be Christian Science, a religion founded by Mary Baker Eddy which applied the bible (especially its gospels) to our day to day health.  An elderly woman I drove around as a service back in the 1990’s related this religious view of health to me, and I like it.  It works for me and it has a great price tag: it’s free.

Let’s put that aside as one person’s view of health in a large country.  There are over 300 million people in the U.S. and hence over 300 million views, which I imagine range from totally unlike mine to slightly different.  We all have different beliefs on many topics, the U.S. Government through its First Amendment to the Constitution purporting to allow for that, explicitly in the area of religion and in the press. My version of health has a very strong, in fact dominant religious and spiritual component to it.  Am I the only one? I sincerely doubt that, as the population of Christian Scientists alone would clearly testify, a number over a couple hundred thousand to be sure.

If health has a religious connection to more than just me, why is Government so adamant that it should be involved with it?  Let’s look at that famous Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

The U.S. Government needs a clear definition of terms before it can be a valid legislator on health; perhaps one that would cross a religious line, so render it the wrong institution to in fact legislate on the topic.

I visited Los Angeles last week from my home in Mexico to note that its mayor is making citizens wear masks in any public place.  This is one of many instances over the years of Government taking sides with Western medicine, calling their “experts” health.  A silent arrangement, but an unproven link lingers, as I know I don’t see or feel health in an over-air-conditioned, over-priced doctor’s office.  I have the Christian Science, yes, but even the Native American Great Spirit—the natural, earth-based approach to health—fills me with peace of mind more than Western offices, concrete, asphalt, pills and surgeries.  It’s okay for someone reading that to be upset and claim a different point of view!  Perhaps you get great peace of mind from Western medicine, which is fine, so wear your mask without making me wear one please.

We should all be free to decide our own health path in the United States or anywhere else.  This is a hard article to write, as I don’t actually believe in the United States as a valid government, for it was founded in armed theft and violence against the native people here.  In fact, at no time has the United States Government received consent of the native peoples to govern here that was not forced at gunpoint—and by John Locke’s definition of government, that it validates itself by the “consent of the governed…” we have a failure.  That being said, one has to live by even invalid constructs, and in the case of the U.S. there is a law that’s supposed to give us free speech, and it also claims so proudly to be a democracy.

But during a panic, over a new flu less powerful than the old one, the Government feels it has an excuse to squash free speech, mandate quarantines and masks—lending to the problem in logic I have with such a response.   If one is living a healthy life, making positive choices and walking a path with conviction and belief—why would that person change such a path because of an over-hyped virus?  The U.S. and other governments aligned with Western medicine ask and demand that we be afraid of people, keep distances.  This is against Christian practice, asks that I believe the lie that my brother or sister human being out on the road is more likely to curse me than bless me.  I’ll never believe that, nor will I ever believe in a government that doesn’t allow me to believe what I want to believe.

I was brought up to think
polytheism and paganism the
devil, and something to avoid
like the plague.

I here announce my polytheism,
finding both the bible and
Earth concept helpful to
arrive at good spirituality
and decision making.

The two work together well,
ask Juan Diego and the Virgin
of Guadalupe.

Mixing is okay, take what you
like and leave the rest;

the highest power in my life,
when put into words is the
Native American Great Spirit.

I pray without books, conjuring
the Earth and sky above it,
attempt to find harmony
between it all, and ask guidance
that my action find and enhance
the harmony.

The word of God through his
son Jesus Christ is food; I
eat it daily next to my breakfast
and lunch.

I do not eat dinner anymore
because two drug overdoses
injured my brain and diaphragm
so I cannot digest food and sleep
at the same time.

I took drugs and drank flammable
alcohol before I considered
the Great Spirit and happy,
balanced, content

Polytheism.

baby8

I was a few days old, a bundle
of skin and effort so feed me!

Please?

Put out the welcome mat, I’ve
been prepping in a little bubble,

I’m psyched to be out, show me
the way?

They are strapping me down, this
is uncomfortable.  I am powerless,
I can feel this but barely see.

I have no words.  I cry.  I let them
know I am against this course of
action.

Someone is rubbing a sensitive
area, but I trust them.  This will
be okay.  Wait

****

Let the little children come to me,
and do not hinder them, for the
kingdom of God belongs to such
as these.  (Mk 10:14)

The pain of hindering.  The scream
is from a shocked God, the
creator of all things offended at
the attack.

Take heed that ye despise not one
of these little ones; for I say unto you,
That in heaven their angels do always
behold the face of my Father which
is in heaven.  (Mt 18:10)

What’s better, an old quote?  The
gospel?  The bible, or ancient thought
or nature itself?  What is natural?
What is rational?

Did God screw up?  Did evolution
mess up?

Is it more plausible that bible stories
are man or God-made?  Could men
or women be inspired by God or
higher power to write, but is it
possible we have injected our
fallibility and perversions in these
stories?  Is alcohol—a flammable
liquid—good to ever “drink?”

The story of Abraham talking to
the LORD, where the LORD demands
male mutilation to seal a vow…

Is it sound?  Sensible?  Rational?

Should the Jew have his or her
mutilation, but stay away from our
health facilities—those who respect
the human rights of all babies?

Don’t hurt children.  Don’t abuse
children.  Guard them in the Christian
way, if you be Christian.  Intervene
for them, if you care and are in
touch with the feelings of infant
life!

Protect children!  Join the angels
that bear God’s face, and keep them
from harm!

***

I myself am a victim of child abuse.

No one set out to harm.  No one
intended malice!

The Devil is an amazingly subtle, skillful
foe—who can Trojan horse into your
most sacred rooms and infect our
generations, our loves, our passions,
our children.

The only way clear is through
enlightenment and care—the kind that
comes through trying, showing up
and grace.

Wide is the path to destruction,
and many are on it.

Forgive them Father, they know not
what they do.

Well, I think it’s time to tell them
what they’re doing.

Do we need baby whisperers to
interpret their screams?

We all know what is right in our
minds and hearts, as we connect
with Creation—

breathe deeply and meditate on
God and right.  Read the Tao Te
Ching, go with the flow, do less
and let the next baby born be
a baby.

Keep them out of your religion, until
they want to be in it—or not—at
a later date,

Let’s stop the abuse before too
late, God forgive circumcision!

We forgive the writers of the Bible
and others through history, who
have proposed it.

I will convert fully to the Native
American Great Spirit, before
I bow to a God that would
advocate hurting little ones.

I do not know.  Truth comes to me
in dreams, and I write it all down,
the gift I was given perhaps to make
up for foreskin lost.  Perhaps
I’ll take my pain to the stage, make
some jokes, plant my Forgiveness
Tree in the next baby we save.

Truth, with or without words, and
Nature’s perfection places us in
eternity the moment we listen
to the real voice of God not in
books.

We deify ourselves, to our
own detriment.  We throw the
ship off balance, forget our
place, and suddenly we imagine
we did this and created it all.

So we register, buy a car, sign
on with a “doctor” and do what
everybody else seems to be doing.

The goal to live a long time, right?

Only God is good, taught a rebellious
rabbi from Nazareth, and for those
who do not believe in God?  Find
a dictionary, or look at Google.com,
some place online, type in the letters,
G-o-d, and see the concept defined.

God exists.

***

Next, break away from all
convention, and all things you do
and have done because other
people said it was good.

Ads on TV splashing a flammable
liquid around in fancy glasses
and bars, telling you it’s great
to drink!

That man or woman in a white
coat telling you you have a grave
disease that requires much care,
stated with assurance and high
education, Latin terms and bull.

When was your last hike in nature?
When did you last discard your
wardrobe, walk naked in the
sun, feet on earth, taking in
the Great Spirit, a song in birds
sung, the click click of a squirrel
being chased by another squirrel,
the deer waiting for quiet to speak,
soft tracks by the creek? Jump in
it’s wet, cleansing and a reminder

we created nothing.

Only God is good, look it up—
I didn’t say it first, say it now,
not last, aware I prayed to God
for poetry and got it from my dreams,
prayed for a sense of humor,
and got it right away in a car burning
earth as it rained sunshine, cooler
than it seems.

True is as true was, not in words
until blessed—before that?

You must ask.

The ear must hear earth, listen and
touch the dirt with hands and feet,
feel the thunder, be a part of the
sound, the waves, the one heartbeat.

“God” is for you to define, life for
you to sort, master or discard, our
choices abound, so pray first.

I don’t care what you pray to, though
when I got sober I started to care about
most things.

Words, shmerds, be happy, and choose
a god or Higher Power that inspires
you to great days!

Forty-six years has provided me a lot
of evidence that some sort of code
or adherence to spiritual principles
helps one enjoy, live and give toward
great days!

What is life, but a day?  Make it great,
the key admitting we can’t do that
alone, that supplication does work.

Ask and ye shall receive was said by
a wise teacher, referring to the glory
of prayer, the same one that said
that you can move mountains with
true belief and dedication to your
faith.

Let go.

Listen to the reason, the gift given;
there is a fairness in the honest
step, look both ways and consider
before taking it.

The blind leading the blind
down blind alleys and suffering;
what can a human king do for
a human being?

Samuel was a fool to ask for one,
you were fooled to vote for one;

Real power in the sky, stream and
stars that are beyond our arms,
the dance of wind and change on
your face, the leaves and branches
shadows all over the place yielding

what a man cannot:

Peace.

***

Samuel trudge back!

Go back up that hill or hut,
sound the alarm or bugle or
whatever trumpet says “Hey!”
We’ve gone amuck!

Give back the reins, let God take
it over from here.

God is my king and my president,
Smile.

And never fear!!!!!!!

Teachers and students are targets
because we have fallen for a great
lie:

That schools are good.

That schools will help a person
become “successful,” the modern
word for Heaven—

spirituality kicked out of modern
life, more and more.

God is being kicked out of politics,
schools, and even churches that
tout public prayer as good—despite
the teachings of Christ, who touted
private prayer.

Shopping centers and malls,
concrete and asphalt mixed with
high buildings to trap us and block
us from the glory of unfettered
Nature.

We construct cages of learning,
worship and living, separate
ourselves from Creation, celebrate
our human abilities and “Oh,
aren’t we neat,” then—in a panic
of lost peace of mind…

A disgruntled student shoots
through all barriers, acts out to
feel something, and tears down
our walls of Babel in multiple
gruesome murders of innocent,
unarmed people.

Walls within walls, the shots tear
town walls.

Inside the walls, if not dead himself,
the shooter feels now.

Feels regret.

And a poet wonders why he still
lives in a modern city.
