Joy, Love, Peace

There is nothing to gain in
putting children down; in making
then subservient to us adults!

Let go of control, and remember
this, our journey, to “be as children,”
to retain the wonder, the dream.

Teachers: we are wise to learn
from children, and go beyond equal
treatment of the young—make them king.

Serve a child, shake hands—give a first
name and serve.  Get them things,
listen and allow them their needs.

The devil gets into anyone—children,
too—so shut down bad behavior as
best you can when in charge of a home

or class.  But come from a proper
place of knowing the devil can get to
us adults, too!  Banish judgment, and

wander onto the side of children as
you “teach,” take in the lessons learned
when you open to the moment,

find God in open minds, and be willing
to see that someone else beside you had
the best idea of the day!  We are children

inside, let that hair down, and keep joy
for life close—live every day as if it were
the very first, put down alcohol, drugs,

resentment and self-pity; these are the
ways Satan hammers the child out of
you, turns us into grumpy puppies!

Ruff!  Shake a child’s hand and bless your
life.  Do them a favor, be a hero in
Longfellow’s strife!  God bless the children

in us, so we can be there for the actually
young!  Tucked in shirts and “respect
for your elder” is not as important

as a humble knowledge of the universal
pecking order.  God or Higher Power
above and beyond, all of us below it,

the young with a special access to the
simple and true—study the child, and you
can be true, too—so give beyond the

sergeant’s whistle, beyond the “getting
them in line,” and make of the young
ones friends, and pass beyond a good time.

It is the road to heaven to be truthful
and full of joy—remember our place,
love a child, and certain peace of mind

is granted to every girl and boy.

Joy, Law, Love, Peace

-by Bill Watkins 7/16/2017

Diploma

I graduated a full-blown alcoholic from Polytechnic School in Pasadena, California in 1990.

A law-breaking, underaged drinker of alcohol, middle fingers in the air, a part of a gang of dudes called The Assholes.

I got good grades, was heading to a University of California school to play Division One volleyball, a sport in which I had also excelled at Poly.

*******

But I had not learned how to live life in a legal, productive, honest and honorable way.

I was a liar—mostly about how much a I drank.

We had all been caught on a ninth grade ski trip, one of the kids puking all over a couch in the lodge lobby, outing all of us for “partying” with flammable liquids that night.

Alcoholics, be they fifteen or forty years old, are clever with admissions, and find ways to skate by certain hassles.

We got by that situation with a slap on the wrist, but no one thought to call the police or to get the kids to Alcoholics Anonymous ASAP.

My dream for Poly and all schools is that they put LAW into their Credo’s and/or mission statements. DO NOT GRADUATE KIDS OR YOUNG ADULTS WHO ARE NOT COMMITTED TO THE LAW.

I believe it more important to prepare children for LIFE than for overrated college.

In fact, when I was coming up, college was a False god—

“If you just get into the right college….”

The great solve-everything plan. #Hogwash.

There’s a lot more to LIFE than college, and as long as children must by law go to school, WE NEED LAW INSTRUCTION AND DEDICATION IN SCHOOL.

“But they are supposed to get that in the home!”

But they are not. So schools:

Put law into the curriculum today; I am available to teach it, as Law has become a passion in my sober life.

Yes, I am now fifteen years sober, in love with the law, and dedicated to telling the truth.

Freedom awaits, and a real God, oh yeah and Heaven—

Which may just be John Wooden’s peace of mind.

a.a., Alcoholics Anonymous

Plastic Bags float into the sea, eventually….

But what if we took care of them;
what if we kept them tightly balled
up in back pocket ready to spring,
use, re-use—recycle???

What if we taught in public
schools, not math and reading
first—but take care of our
communities, obey the law, honor
your parents?

What if we did not shy away from
the Bible if it teaches good,
add the Tao Te Ching when
appropriate, use the Big Book
of A.A., tell the old guard to give
up and make a gender neutral
version?

Honor your parents to live long
in the kingdom God has given us,
keep one day a week holy, call it
a Sabbath, a day of rest, there is
wisdom in old—let go, and give
your life up to Higher Powers,
“shower the people you love
with love,” James Taylor hour—

the Day is Done, and Longfellow
coaches us to our highest selves
before sleep, to sleep perchance
to dance, the language we have
not perfect, betraying beautiful
fictions—contradicting heavenly
excursions as we go for one last
slide or reason “why” before the
eyelids close and yesterday dies.

I have an inkling it all matters, is
recorded, and that Karma is beyond
theory—it is Newton’s Third Law, fun
for all at Einstein’s intersection of
knowing and not knowing….

Honor them and sleep.

Honor them, sing, tell the truth,
reject sin and sleep…

Teach a child not to litter,
and sleep

Joy, Love, Peace

Up away, high in the sky
they fly—law dragons protecting
the way we think and do,
Hoping we do not die.

Pete is one, has three heads and
breathes fire; Gretel is the other,
female, orange, fiery herself,
but while Pete in blue swoops in

Gretel thinks, the two a team
against wrongdoing, illuminating
law so children know how to live
a long time—

Pete likes to rhyme!! Gretel too,
and this was what they hoped
to say to you:

“Obey the law, children, wear your
helmet when you ride. Hitting, pushing,
poking, stabbing and shooting will
not go, and’ll get you put in jail!!

“In jail you dream alone, with so
little space to roam. I think you’d
rather be at home. So wear that helmet
if you ride a bike, scooter, roller blade
or anything with wheels on streets
or sidewalks.

“Never write on walls or desks or things
that do not belong to you. Do not
paint on things that aren’t yours.
Never steal. Taking something that is
not yours will take from your soul;
what’s worse it leads to jail, we already
said. You’ll wish you were dead!!

“And that’s why we’re here, to push and
remind you not to die, not to live selfishly.
Do not hurt others, and if someone hurts
you: We are sorry about that, but
DO NOT hurt back. Report the incident,
stay safe from harm, let the police or teachers
or parents help, be patient, and someone will
come who cares like us!!

“Last, children, as we are flying around
up here, could you do two more things
for us? Read the law as you learn to read,
teach your parents if they don’t know them
all, like the one about fireworks—some
communities allow them, some don’t, which is
yours? Obey!! Those adult drinks
with alcohol in them? Do not touch them!!!
Smoking? Inhaling smoke into your lungs?
Firemen and women must risk this danger
to save our lives, but you and I? NO!!!

“Finally, kids, have fun—one day at a time!!
Stay in touch with us and law, and you’ll
be sure to stay in line.

“Give as much as you can within the rules,
and say ‘NO’ to committing crimes even
with friends you think are cool. Walk
away… And if some day you think there is
a bad law—DON’T BREAK IT,

“CHANGE IT!! Become a part of this
country, give your song a voice, tell
people how you feel. Law protects
our rights to love, joy and peace, so
wait your turn, raise your hand and be
counted.

“You’ll be happy if you do, like us
dragons, free to be anything we want
to be… except….”

Except when your freedom
hurts others. Obey the law, kids!!
Thanks!!!
